Headache
Headache and Migraines can be caused from spinal misalignment’s in many different areas, each giving distinctly different sets of symptoms.
There are three main types of Headaches and Migraines that includes Migraine Headaches, Tension Headaches and Sub occipital Headaches.
Problem
Migraine Headaches:
Migraine headaches generally start in the morning and can involve nausea and vomiting, that may last a couple of days in a row. The condition can get very intense to the extent that nothing relieves the migraine except for rest time. Migraine headaches is often accompanied by tension in the neck, shoulders and mid back which usually triggers during wake up time and affects sleeping time. There is also sensitivity to noise and light.
Tension Headaches:
Tension Headaches involves the whole neck but mainly concentrated in the shoulder muscles area, which often occurs anytime from 11am to 3pm. The pain generally worsen during the day especially during busy or stressful days. It can however be relieved by resting or laying down.
Sub occipital Headaches:
Sub occipital Headaches is a dull pressure in front of the head or under the back of your skull that creates problem with concentration. It is a constant headache that begins at the start of the day until bed time, which may seem to be less noticeable when you are active or busy. In some cases, it may have light headedness or dizziness, which may go on for days in a row and does not relieves naturally.
Causes
Migraine Headaches:
The mid thoracic spine that is located between the shoulder blades is the area of the spine, which is often associated with Migraines. This is the area that plays a part in toxicity and body chemistry.
It is often sleeping that causes an increase in toxicity due to the longer time between toilet visits. There are many migraine patients that often gets a migraine on Sunday mornings from spending more time in bed. It can worsen by consuming alcohol, medications and other chemicals, also when your body is dehydrated.
Lifting objects that are heavy and large puts more pressure on the middle of your back, which may cause this area to trigger to nerves that causes migraines.
Tension Headaches:
There are a few areas of the muscles located in the upper back, the top of the shoulders and the lower neck, which often become tenser especially during a busy or stressful day. There is a high possibility that the tension in the lower neck area causes Tension Headaches.
Tension headaches occur due to long hours facing the computer, especially when the workstation is set up poorly. The poor vertebral alignment in the lower neck or upper thoracic spine are often the reasons that causes tension headaches. Emotional/Time based stress such as deadlines, exams, family stress and important events can also set off Tension Headaches
Sub occipital Headaches:
Sub occipital headaches indicates the poor vertebral alignment in the upper neck region, which often occurs based on the position that you sleep. Most patients toss and turn at night which puts pressure and tension to their upper neck area. It could also be a result from traumas such as falling or hitting the head on concrete flooring, and car accidents.
Treatment
Migraine Headaches:
Migraine Headaches often respond well to hydration, as toxicity is usually the main issue, patients have reported that increased water consumption of water helped to improve and increase the elimination rate. For example, visiting the toilet for both 1’s and 2’s is a method to eliminate toxins.
There is a specific correction called an ‘adjustment’ that is used to re-align the vertebra into the correct position, once the cause has been identified.
Professional Chiropractic intervention helps to reduce the severity, frequency and time to fix these Migraines.
It is recommended to get out of bed and start the day active to produce more sweat. This is a great way to eliminate toxins. Despite how mild exercise may be the last thing you want to do especially when you have a migraine, it would often help and ease the process.
The systematic ‘hands-on’ examination of the spine with the help of x-rays and specialised instruments, leads our professionally trained chiropractors to precisely locate the exact vertebra that is misaligned causing the migraine.
Tension Headaches:
Approach a professional Chiropractor to check your spine in order to get rid of your Tension Headache. It is the best way to have professionals fix and decrease the severity and frequency of your headaches.
It is important to correcting poor workstation, as well as bad posture or habits that lead to Tension Headaches. It is recommended to get a regular massage to help decrease the re-occurrence of Tension Headaches.
Sub occipital Headaches:
Sub occipital headaches is the simplest headaches to treat especially when a professional Chiropractor detects the exact cause. They also have some of the quickest results, as most patients reports 90-100% ease from the Headache in few hours time.
It is important to note that spending more time in bed has the reverse effect of these headaches. Drinking more water may help sometimes, or taking Panadols, however, there are not a permanent fix. It is crucial to get up and be active as you would feel better especially when you are busy.
If Ignored
Migraine Headaches:
Migraine Headaches often gets worse over a long period of time, and the frequency would increase from one every 6 months to as often as one per week.
The mid back pain and/or shoulder blade pain would trigger afterwards especially when the cause is left untreated. These sort of headaches would definitely interfere with your lifestyle and well-being. Although the intensity of the pain does not change much, the pain is often intense. Overtime the pain would get worse especially when it previously lasted only one to three days (or more).
Tension Headaches:
Tension Headaches would reoccur and get more severe especially when it is left untreated for a long time. Tension Headaches Migraines often starts later in the morning or early afternoon, as opposed to Classic Migraines that triggers early in the morning.
If you leave this one for long enough it can start to cause problems with the nerves down the arms. You might start to get carpel tunnel symptoms, or pins and needles down part or all of one or both arms. This is because the cause of Tension Headache is often misalignment of the lower neck region. The nerves in this area supply the skin and muscles in the arms
Sub occipital Headaches:
These headaches tend to become more frequent and last longer especially when it is left untreated during the first occurrence. The headaches may last for four to six days at a time throughout the day. There are other problems such as neck pain rotation and strong pull muscular pain under the base of the skull, resulted from change in sleeping position.
